LAKE MAINTENANCE

URGENT NEWS:

NOTE THIS IS FROM 2011 🙂

Over the past couple of years, the landowners and Amigo Centre representatives have been meeting to discuss the problems with Eurasian Watermilfoil and it’s growing presence. Some of you have met with Michigan MDEQ (department of environmental quality), water quality experts from universities, attended seminars, and talked to respected treatment companies. We have wrestled with the pros and cons of mechanical harvesting, beetles and chemical treatment.

* The only practical treatment for Perrin is a chemical treatment plan.

*Chemical treatment is considered safe and has to be approved each year by the MDEQ.

*Treatments are applied, then water samples are sent to a lab to measure the concentration. Treatment is not “guesswork”.

* The first treatment is always the most expensive and will cost from $9500 to $13,655.

*The second and third years will likely be around $2500.

*In order to treat for 2012, we need to have $13,655 available by December 15th.

*We still need $6289 to reach this goal. A group of people has committed a matching fund of $3300 towards the $6289 if we can reach it 2011!

We are asking for everyone’s help and any amount is appreciated. Any donations are held in complete privacy by the Amigo Center accounting office and they will not share that information with committee members.
